What is Elleste Duet Conti Tablets?

Elleste Duet Conti tablets are a form of HRT that contains two hormones, oestradiol, and norethisterone. They contain oestradiol, a type of estrogen that helps to reduce menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats.

The norethisterone part of the tablet is a form of progesterone, which helps to prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Elleste Duet Conti tablets have three strengths, 2mg/0.5mg, 2mg/1mg, and 4mg/1mg. They are taken orally, once daily. Your doctor will advise you on the best dose for you.

How do they work?

Elleste Duet contains a combination of two synthetic hormones – estrogen and progestogen. The estrogen helps relieve menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings.

It also helps to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer by counteracting the growth of the womb lining caused by estrogen. Progestogen supplements also cause a monthly bleed which further reduces the risk of endometrial cancer in women who haven’t had a hysterectomy or Mirena coil fitted.

Elleste Duet 2mg is also used to prevent osteoporosis for short-term periods in postmenopausal women. Osteoporosis occurs when bones become fragile due to decreased bone density.

Taking Elleste Duet tablets can help to reduce bone loss and protect against fractures resulting from weakened bones. It may take up to three months before any benefits are seen.

The tablets must be taken as instructed, with one tablet taken at the same time each day and preferably with food.

What are the benefits?

Elleste Duet Conti Tablets provide several benefits for those undergoing menopause. The combined hormones in the tablets have been clinically proven to reduce symptoms associated with menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness.

Elleste Duet Conti Tablets can also help to prevent bone loss and may reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis. Additionally, this medication may improve mood, reduce irritability, and relieve depression and anxiety. HRT containing both estrogen and progesterone has a reduced risk of endometrial cancer compared to estrogen-only HRT.

Are there any side effects?

Yes, there are some potential side effects associated with taking Elleste Duet Conti tablets. The most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and bloating.

Additionally, some people may experience headaches, menstrual changes, decreased libido, and breast tenderness.

In rare cases, more severe side effects may occur.

If you experience yellowing of your skin or eyes (jaundice), swelling of your face, throat, or tongue and difficulty breathing, migraines, signs of a blood clot such as painful swelling and redness in a leg, sudden chest pain or breathing difficulties, or a significant increase in your blood pressure, stop taking Elleste Duet and seek immediate medical attention.
