  • The phone’s dimensions are 152.4 x 72.9 x 9mm, weighing 193g.

All in all, the Google Pixel 7a has impressive specifications for a mid-range smartphone. It offers excellent value for money with its high-end chip, water-resistant design, and exceptional camera setup.

Google Pixel 7A Pros

The Google Pixel 7a is an excellent device that has gained immense popularity. The phone boasts a robust build quality and has a solid software support policy, guaranteeing frequent updates and security patches. The phone has some impressive features that make it a significant investment.

One of the best features of the Google Pixel 7a is its best-in-class camera. The phone has a 12.2-megapixel primary camera that produces high-quality pictures and videos. It also features a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, which allows you to take amazing wide-angle shots.

Another improvement that comes with the Pixel 7a is the improved 90Hz screen. The phone has a 6.2-inch OLED screen with a 1080 x 2400-pixel resolution that delivers vibrant colors, making the display visually stunning.

The phone also supports wireless charging, which is an added advantage. This means you can charge the device without cables; fast charging support helps get it up quickly.

Finally, the price and value of the Google Pixel 7a are also a big selling point. The phone is reasonably priced compared to other premium phones in the market. Additionally, the phone’s specs and features are unmatched by its competitors in the same price range.

Google Pixel 7A Cons

While there are many great features to the Google Pixel 7a, there are also some cons to consider before purchasing. Here are some of the main drawbacks of this smartphone.

First, the price point has increased by $50 compared to last year’s model. While this may seem small, it is worth noting for those on a tight budget.

Additionally, the fingerprint scanner still needs to be faster and can be frustrating for those who use it frequently. You may have to scan your finger to unlock your device repeatedly.

Lastly, while the camera on the Google Pixel 7a is impressive, the digital zoom feature could use an update. Zooming in on photos can result in grainy and pixelated images, which may be disappointing for those who enjoy taking high-quality pictures.

Google Pixel 7a Review In Depth

Google Pixel 7a Review - Is It Worth Your Money?

Google Pixel 7a – Design Review

The design of the Google Pixel 7a is sleek and modern, with a high-gloss plastic back and an aluminum frame. The glossy plastic back gives the phone a premium look, and it’s worth noting that it looks like it’s made of glass until you touch it.

The aluminum frame of the Pixel 7a matches the color of the device you choose, and it looks great.

Compared to the Pixel 6a, which had a plastic camera bar, the Pixel 7a features a metallic camera bar similar to what you’ll find on the standard Pixel 7.

This camera bar is thinner than its predecessor, probably due to the smaller sensors.

Overall, the design of the Google Pixel 7a is impressive and will appeal to anyone looking for a modern and stylish smartphone.

Google Pixel 7a – Display Review

The display of the Google Pixel 7a is undoubtedly one of its best features. It boasts a 6.1-inch Full HD OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The Corning Gorilla Glass 3 adds to its durability and makes it resistant to scratches and accidental drops.

What sets the Pixel 7a apart from its predecessor is the improved 90Hz adaptive refresh rate. This Smooth Display feature makes scrolling through apps, web pages, and social media a much smoother experience. The high refresh rate is particularly noticeable while playing games or watching videos, adding to the phone’s overall performance.

The colors on the Pixel 7a display are vibrant, with deep blacks and excellent contrast levels. It also has a decent maximum brightness level of up to 500 nits, making it easy to use in sunlight or bright environments.

The Pixel 7a’s display is impressive, considering it’s a budget-friendly phone. The added Smooth Display feature is a welcomed improvement, making it feel like a premium device. If you’re in the market for a phone with an excellent display, the Pixel 7a won’t disappoint.

Google Pixel 7a – Performance Review

When it comes to performance, the Google Pixel 7a doesn’t disappoint. It comes with the newer Tensor G2 chip, significantly improving over its predecessor, the Pixel 6a. Along with 8GB of RAM, you’ll get a snappy and smooth user experience.

One notable feature is the increased refresh rate for the display. The 90Hz refresh rate offers smoother scrolling and animations, which can significantly enhance your user experience.

However, this feature is disabled by default, probably due to the Pixel 7a’s poor battery life, as a higher refresh rate can decrease battery life.

When it comes to gaming, the Pixel 7a handles it exceptionally well. You’ll get excellent graphics, smoother gameplay, and quicker load times.

Additionally, with 128GB of storage, you will be OK with running out of space anytime soon.

Google Pixel 7a – Software Review

The software on the Google Pixel 7a is one of its most significant selling points. This smartphone comes with Android 13 straight out of the box, just like its higher-end counterparts, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

One of the best things about the Pixel series is that they receive timely and consistent updates. The Pixel 7a is no exception, with three guaranteed OS upgrades and five years of security patches.

Android 13 is a unique operating system packed with features and enhancements. You’ll notice a more polished design, streamlined menus, and customizable settings from the start.

The Pixel 7a provides a pure Android experience without the added layers of manufacturer skins, a big bonus for many users.

The software on the Pixel 7a is responsive, smooth, and glitch-free. Google’s software optimizations ensure that this device runs fast and smoothly.

One of the things I appreciated most about the software on this device is its user-friendliness. It’s easy to navigate, and the intuitive user interface makes finding the settings and features you’re looking for simple.

Google Pixel 7a – Camera Review

One of the key selling points of the Google Pixel 7a is its camera system, which doesn’t disappoint. With a 64MP primary camera and a 13MP ultrawide sensor, the Pixel 7a offers excellent versatility in capturing different shots.

While the megapixel count may be higher than its siblings, it’s worth noting that the sensor on the Pixel 7a is not as large as the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro sensor.

This may impact the quality of low-light images. However, in my experience, the Pixel 7a still takes excellent photos regardless of lighting conditions.

The image quality is incredibly detailed and sharp without looking too over-processed. The colors are vivid and punchy but without the over-saturation often found in Samsung phones or harsh colors on the iPhone 14 Pro in bright light.

The camera software on the Pixel 7a is also impressive. The AI-based image processing can adjust settings based on the scene to improve the overall quality of the photo. Night Sight, which helps capture low-light photos, is also a standout feature that delivers impressive results.

Overall, the camera on the Pixel 7a is a highlight and one of the key reasons to consider this device. While it may not be the best in low-light situations, it’s still an excellent option for those who want to capture stunning photos quickly.

Google Pixel 7a -Battery Life Review

Unfortunately, it is the weakest point of this device regarding the battery life of the Google Pixel 7a. As the Pixel A-series is the smallest of the Pixel lineup, it usually has the smallest battery to accompany its physical size.

The Pixel 7a has a 4,385mAh battery, less than its predecessor’s 4,410mAh battery. However, it is comparable to the Pixel 7’s 4,355mAh battery.

Google claims that the Pixel 7a is a 24-hour smartphone, and you can extend it to 72 hours by using the Extreme Battery Saver setting. But, Pixels have never been known for their excellent battery life, which is particularly true with the Pixel 7a.

In my usage, I’ve primarily used the device on Wi-Fi and for light to medium tasks such as checking emails, work messages, social media, taking and editing photos, watching videos, streaming music, web browsing, and other everyday tasks.

Despite this usage, I’ve noticed that the battery drains continuously, even if the device is sitting idle on my desk.

Overall, the battery life of the Google Pixel 7a could be more impressive and might need to meet the expectations of some users. It’s worth noting that the battery will drain even faster if you use the device for heavy tasks.

Google Pixel 7a: Price and Availability

The Google Pixel 7a is currently priced at $499. It is available directly from Google, retailers like Amazon and Best Buy, and various wireless carriers. It comes in four colors, Charcoal, Snow, Sea, and Coral, exclusively available on the Google Store.

However, the price of the Pixel 7a makes it difficult to recommend, mainly since the Pixel 6a is still being sold at a much lower cost of $349. Suppose you’re looking for an affordable Pixel phone. The Pixel 6a is a great option, especially since it’s still a fantastic device.

That being said, if you need a phone with better specs and features, such as a higher refresh rate, more megapixels, and wireless charging, then the Pixel 7a may be a better fit.

However, it’s important to note that the Pixel 7 is only $100 more. It offers a larger camera sensor, better battery life, reverse wireless charging, and an overall better AMOLED display.

This puts the Pixel 7a in a bit of an awkward position. If the Pixel 6a were discontinued, it would be easier to recommend the Pixel 7a, but this is not the case. Ultimately, it depends on your needs and budget. Still, it’s worth considering the options available before making a final decision.

Verdict

In summary, the software on the Pixel 7a is top-notch, providing a user-friendly and smooth experience. With guaranteed updates for the next three years, you can be sure that your device will stay current with the latest Android versions and security patches. If you’re a fan of the pure Android experience, the software on the Pixel 7a won’t disappoint.

Overall, the Google Pixel 7a delivers outstanding performance, making it an excellent option for anyone who values a fast and smooth user experience. However, more than the battery life may be required for heavy users, so keep that in mind before purchasing.
