The ice skating rink is located behind the community center and is open from 10 am to 10 pm. There are skating sessions every hour on the hour with the last session ending at 9:00 pm. Children’s skate time sessions are Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am until noon. Public skate sessions are Monday through Friday from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12 years old.
2) The Fair
A tradition that takes place every year at the end of November is the annual Fair held at Willow Ridge School. Every year when we get close to Thanksgiving and December, I can’t help but be super excited for the next week or so. The old barn gets decorated with all sorts of lights and Santa Claus waiting out front. Then, we have our tree lighting ceremony as well as a fireworks show later that night.
3) Local Art
Whether you are looking for family-friendly activities or activities for adults only, there is something for everyone. Many local attractions can give visitors some insight into the rich culture of the area. At the Visitor Center, Santa Claus is waiting with a warm cup of cocoa and a hearty laugh. Where are you going this winter? he asks visitors. I’m going to New York City! one young man tells him as he shakes his hand. Santa laughs and smiles at the group. You all look so happy! Thank you for visiting our little town, now it’s time for me to get back to work. He gives each visitor a high five before sending them on their way.
7) Visit A Museum
Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum is located on the corner of Benton Harbor Avenue and Ottawa Street. You’ll be impressed by the museum’s creativity when you walk through and see all of the displays. Visitors can learn about unusual historical events and explore different areas from around the world with interactive exhibits that encourage everyone to touch, explore, and imagine new possibilities.
With its quirky displays, Ripley’s museum is a great place for children because it will keep them entertained while they learn more about history.
8) Watch A Movie At The Cinema Theater
Hearst Cinema is the newest theater in town and offers both one-screen and two-screen cinemas. The theater offers classic movie showings like Star Wars. For those with more recent tastes, there are plenty of popular options as well including Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. Hearst Cinema will be playing host to new movies coming out this year that you won’t want to miss!
9) Play At The State Park Or Playgrounds Around Town
Pack a picnic and head over to the county park or one of the many playgrounds around town. Chances are there will be lots of other people enjoying the winter scenery. If you get tired of playing outside you can always hop back into your car for some winter shopping. There are plenty of stores that carry seasonal goods like wool sweaters, warm boots, hats, and gloves. Make sure to bundle up before you go inside!
